Trig Top Trek 2026: A New Lake District Challenge for Charity
At Castlerigg Hall, our connection to the Lake District goes far beyond the views. As a family-run, award-winning holiday park, the fells, communities, and charities around us truly matter. For that reason, we’re proud to introduce a brand-new fundraising adventure for 2026 — the Trig Top Trek.
Park owner David Jackson has set himself an ambitious goal. In 2026, he plans to climb every trig point in the Lake District, raising money for the Calvert Trust Lake District, a charity we actively support.
Importantly, David won’t be taking on this challenge alone.
A Proven Partnership Returns to the Fells
Joining David is Daniel Holder, owner of The Quiet Site and a familiar walking partner. In 2024, Daniel and David successfully climbed all 214 Wainwrights in one year for charity. As a result, they’re excited to reunite for a fresh Lake District challenge.
Together, they have set a fundraising target of £5,000. Once again, they aim to combine their love of the outdoors with meaningful charitable support. Meanwhile, their four-legged companions, Monty and Peggy, will join them on many of the walks.
What Is the Trig Top Trek?
Trig points, or triangulation pillars, stand proudly on hilltops across the UK. Originally, the Ordnance Survey built them to help map the country.
In contrast to the Wainwrights, trig points are spread more evenly throughout the Lake District. Because of this, the Trig Top Trek will guide David and Daniel into quieter, less-visited areas. These include Black Combe, Ulpha Fell, and Knott Hill.
Although the challenge may be physically easier than the Wainwrights, it still brings difficulties. Finding time away from running busy holiday parks remains a major test. Additionally, the ever-changing Lake District weather will play its part.
A Meaningful Start and Finish
Finally, the pair plan to end the challenge in a fitting way. They aim to leave Skiddaw as their final summit.
This approach allows them to both start and finish at the Calvert Lakes Centre. As a result, the journey comes full circle, linking the challenge directly to the charity it supports.
Supporting the Calvert Trust Lake District
The Calvert Trust Lake District delivers life-changing outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities. Crucially, it also welcomes families and friends to share those experiences.
Based near Keswick, the Trust offers fully accessible activities. These include climbing, canoeing, sailing, and zip wiring. Through these adventures, guests build confidence, independence, and lasting memories in the outdoors.
