We’re absolutely thrilled to share some amazing news with you—Castlerigg Hall Caravan, Camping & Glamping Park has just been awarded the 2025 Cumbria Tourism Award for Regenerative Tourism!
This prestigious recognition was announced at the glittering Cumbria Tourism Awards ceremony on Tuesday 8th July, hosted at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal. With 260 of the region’s top businesses and tourism champions in attendance, the evening was nothing short of inspiring. Hosted by mountaineer and motivational speaker Nigel Vardy—aka Mr Frostbite—the event celebrated the best of the best in Cumbrian tourism.

A Family Legacy Rooted in Nature
Castlerigg Hall isn’t just a holiday park—it’s our family’s legacy, nestled on land farmed by our parents and grandparents in the heart of the Lake District. We’ve always believed that tourism can be a force for good—not just preserving the landscape, but actively improving it. Winning the regenerative tourism award is a reflection of that belief and the many small but meaningful steps we’ve taken over the years.
From the beginning, we’ve balanced welcoming guests with protecting the environment. We’ve resisted overdevelopment, preserving green spaces and protecting those incredible panoramic views of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Strategic planting of hedges and native trees helps the park blend seamlessly into its surroundings, supporting wildlife and enhancing biodiversity.
Regeneration in Action
This award isn’t just about what guests see—it’s about the work happening behind the scenes, too. Over the past few years, we’ve:
- Created wildlife havens including pollinator patches, bird boxes, eco-beehives, and bug hotels.
- Installed renewable energy systems like solar thermal panels, PV, air-source and ground-source heat pumps.
- Built glamping pods from recycled materials and powered them sustainably.
- Maintained accessible facilities with a focus on eco-friendly cleaning and inclusive design.
- Joined and supported key environmental campaigns like the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme, where we’ve won numerous awards since 1998.
Our robot mowers reduce diesel use and protect soil from nutrient-rich runoff. We compost leaves, grow plants in our polytunnel, and recycle coffee grounds in a wormery. Sustainability touches every part of the park—even the toilet blocks, which are built with local stone and heated with clean energy.
Community is at the Heart of Everything
We’ve always believed that regenerative tourism means more than protecting nature—it’s also about uplifting the community. Whether it’s partnering with the Keswick Red Squirrel Group, fundraising for Fix the Fells, or supporting local events and museums, we aim to give back as much as we get.
We’re proud to have:
- Supported the new 509 Ullswater-Keswick bus, encouraging car-free travel.
- Installed a community defibrillator on site.
- Volunteered with the Keswick Flood Action Group.
- Raised over £20,000 for Cancer Research UK through an epic challenge to climb all 214 Wainwright peaks in a year.
We also hosted Julia Bradbury’s ‘Walk Yourself Happy’ event in May, bringing together guests, locals, and nature lovers for a weekend of walking, wellness, and appreciation of the Lake District’s natural beauty.
Looking Ahead
We’re incredibly proud to go on and represent Cumbria in the 2026 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence—a huge honour and an opportunity to show the rest of the UK what a family-run, environmentally committed holiday park can achieve.
But more than awards, we’re proud of our guests who care, our team who goes the extra mile, and our community that inspires us daily.
Whether you’re visiting for a quiet glamping getaway, a family camping adventure, or just to unwind with nature, you’re part of this story. Thank you for supporting tourism that gives more than it takes.
We hope to welcome you soon to Castlerigg Hall—where holidays are rooted in nature, and the future is green.
